What to Do: Bomb Threat
A bomb or incendiary device can take almost any form and can be triggered in a wide variety of ways. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should a suspicious object be touched or moved.
- Contact University of New Haven Police (203) 932-7070.
- Give the location of where there is a possible threat, as well as a description of what the suspicious package looks like.
- Remain Calm. DO NOT ever try to force open elevator doors.
- Immediately remove yourself and others from the area and report to the building’s muster point.
- While evacuating the building, leave doors and windows open if they already are.
- This will dissipate the energy of a potential explosion.
- While at the building’s muster point, await further instructions by University Police.
- Follow all instructions given by University Police throughout the duration of the incident.
- Do not return to the building or area until University Police has deemed it clear.
If you receive a phone call about a bomb threat:
- Remain Calm
- Get as much info as possible…
- Where is device?
- When will it go off?
- What does it look like?
- What kind of bomb is it?
- Why are you doing this?
- What is your name?
- Any background noises?
- Anything unusual about caller’s voice?
- Call, or have someone call, 9-1-1.
