Facility Access & Member Portal 

A valid University ID or scan tag is required for entry to the facility. Use of another person’s student ID will result in a suspension of your facility access.

Spring memberships end May 18th. Summer Student Memberships may be purchased starting May 15, 2023. See ‘Memberships” section below for details.

Students registered for Summer or Fall 2023 classes are eligible to purchase a membership.

$30 per Summer Session 1 or Summer Session 2 or $50 for Full Summer

All semester student memberships are included with tuition, but all students (new and returning) must activate their membership through the member portal. This portal log in is DIFFERENT from your MyCharger profile, so please click ‘Forgot My Password‘  and use your University email address when prompted. You will receive an email with password re-set instructions.

I am a First Year or Transfer Student, what do I need to do to activate my membership to the Beckerman Recreation Center?

All new student members must register following the steps in the Membership section below.

During the Academic Year, the Beckerman Recreation Center Membership fee for all current full-time and part-time University Of New Haven undergraduate and graduate students is included in their student fees.

What is the ChargerREC Member Code of Conduct?

Visitors who demonstrate any of the signs and symptoms associated with COVD-19 will not enter the Beckerman Recreation Center and should report to a medical professional.

Symptoms includes: 100.4 F (38 C) or higher, dry cough, difficulty breathing, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or loss of taste or smell.

All visitors must follow all posted facility guidelines including:

  • Adhering to the most current Face Covering Policy 
  • Monitoring the intensity level of your workouts while wearing your face covering 
  • Practicing personal hygiene, including frequent hand washing and hand sanitizing.
  • Adhering to capacity limits in each area of the facility.
  • Clean equipment before and after use with the gym wipes provided.
  • Any additional direction provided by ChargerREC staff.
How do I check into the Beckerman Recreation Center

We have implemented a touchless check-in process. Upon check-in members will be required to present:

  • their University ID Card

How do I know if my Beckerman Recreation Center membership is active?

In order to maintain social distancing and increase efficiency of member check-in, we ask that members either e-mail us at chargerrec@newhaven.edu for more information about their membership and if they have complete all necessary access requirements.

The Beckerman Recreation Center is a 56,600-square-foot student recreation center that features multi-purpose group fitness studios; weight room & fitness center; racquetball courts; hardwood activity courts (for basketball, volleyball, and badminton); a multi-activity court (for basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, floor/roller hockey & various other activities); jogging track; juice bar; locker rooms (men’s, women’s & individual use) and lounge areas.

Club Sports are athletic based student organizations, which compete with other universities and colleges. Each club is a University of New Haven Recognized Student Organization and a member of a regional/national governing league/association. Participation and individual dues vary by club.

Court Reservations

Member Portal self-service

Once you have activated your membership, you can use the member portal to reserve a court for badminton or racquetball. Instructions for activating student memberships are below in the Membership section. Reservations become available one day before the reservation. They are available in 30-60-90 minute increments. Two reservations can be made per day but must be separated by a 2-hour break. No member can make more than 2 reservations in one day for the same court. Click here for more details.

Due to facility maintenance and events, courts may have limited availability. We have a limited supply of racquets and shuttlecocks for checkout, and they are not guaranteed to be available.  We recommend that users bring their own badminton racquets and shuttlecocks.  A maximum of 2 shuttlecocks will be provided per reservation. See staff for details.

Lawn Game Reservations

ChargerREC Lawn Games can be reserved by Registered Student Organizations or University Departments/Offices. Reservations must be made at least 3-5 business days in advance. Please fill out this form in its entirety to request the Lawn Games. This form does not guarantee your reservation or the availability of all equipment. This does not reserve the space for your event, only the games. You will receive an email from ChargerREC indicating the approval or denial of your request.

GroupX Summer 2023 :
Spinning, Yoga, Cardio & More!

You’ll need to activate your FREE account in order to see our weekly schedule of classes as it can often change/update. It’s also required to register for each class.

Classes are included with memberships and are held weekly. You can attend one or attend them all! Our trained instructors will guide you through a great workout session so you can work toward your fitness goals. Please review our GroupX policies & registration information 

Register through your member portal to save your spot in class up to 24 hours in advance. Then, check in with a staff member on your way into the classroom. Class descriptions and registration are under the ‘GroupX’ tab.

Membership
Students- Summer (Undergraduate and Graduate) 

All students who are registered for summer classes or Fall 2023 classes are eligible to purchase a summer membership in person at the Beckerman Recreation Center Welcome Desk. Please have payment, University ID, and proof of enrollment beginning May 14, 2023. Students under 18 years of age, see below for further instructions.  Payments can be made with check, credit or debit card (Please note: Cash and American Express are not accepted)

$30 Summer Session 1: May 11- June 28

$30 Summer Session 2: June 29- August 15

$50 Full Summer: May 11 – August 15

How to activate your member profile (18 years of age or older) to access the Beckerman Recreation Center:  

  1. Visit  https://newhaven.clubautomation.com

  1. Click “Forgot Password?” 

  1. Fill in your University of New Haven email address.  

  1. You will receive an email with instructions to set up your account.  

  1. Review and sign the Assumption of Risk, Waiver, and Release from Liability Agreement.  

  1. Please also fill out the emergency contact section to continue to activate your account. 

  1. You will finalize your account on your first visit to the facility where we will take your profile picture.  

How to activate your membership (Under 18 years of age)  

If you will be under 18 years of age when you first come to the Beckerman Recreation Center, please follow the instructions below to access your account.  

  1. Share this link with your parent/guardian for them to sign your Assumption of Risk, Waiver, and Release from Liability Agreement.  

  1. Once the agreement is signed, the student should visit the Beckerman Recreation Center during hours of operation and ask the staff what are your next steps to activate your membership.

Additional Memberships

University of New Haven faculty, staff, alumni, and affiliates of the university are eligible to purchase memberships. Please visit our Membership Page for more detail and links to application forms.

Student employees are empowered to manage the programs of ChargerREC and the operations of the Beckerman Recreation Center. ChargerREC is the largest student employer on-campus, employing over 150 students each year.  We will host employment info sessions when we are looking for new Team members to work as instructors, intramural officials, club sport supervisors, member services assistants, event staff and building supervisors.

We host interns of related areas so please email chargerrec@newhaven.edu if you have an academic internship for sport management, exercise science, marketing, or video production.

All job postings and info sessions will be posted on ChargerLink. 

In addition to the Beckerman Recreation Center, students have access to two turf fields (DellaCamera Stadium and Zolad Stadium) and the University of New Haven Tennis Courts.
