Budget Office

Our primary responsibility is to facilitate the annual budget process at the University.  We compile and analyze data for decision making by the University’s Executive Management and Department Financial Managers.

We are the point of contact for all requests for budget changes and transfers, budget inquiries and assistance in compiling department level budgets.

Our goal is to provide excellent customer service for the entire University community by being a resource for financial and budgetary issues.

The Department Budget Submission form has been created as the standard format required for University-wide department operating budget submissions.  This universal format is required for all operating budget submissions but additional information and/or backup will be accepted if necessary and in some cases will be requested.  All Financial Managers are expected to be prepared to discuss their submission with their Supervisor, their Vice President and/or the Executive Committee when requested to do so.

Managing Budgets (the ABC’s)

A: Accurate Coding

Campus-wide reporting depends on accurate coding by all departments.

Pick the account line that most clearly matches the purchase. You can code the lines even if you do not have budget allocated to that line.

Click here to view the account list. The list is also located in Banner Self-Service.

B: Bottom Line

You do not have to stay within budget in every line. However, you should not spend more than the department total.

Use your spending history to refine your budget next year.

C: Check Regularly

Monitor your budget on a regular basis. Contact the Budget Office with any questions as mistakes in coding can occur.

You will be able to more effectively manage your budget and avoid possible overages if you are aware of its status throughout the fiscal year.
