Residence Halls

The character of residential living is often a good indication of the spirit and quality of life on campus.

The goal of the University of New Haven’s residential life program is to provide a living/learning environment which promotes academic and personal growth and a sense of community among students. A student’s on-campus living experience is an integral part of their educational experience.

Students live in fourteen residence halls supervised by Coordinators, Community Directors, and Residence Directors responsible for the administration of each hall. Resident Assistants (RAs) live in the hall and serve as peer advisers, role models, and initiators of activities and programs. University housing with the exception of the Atwood is occupied on an academic year basis, and it is recommended that all first-year and sophomore students live on campus unless they live with a parent or an extended-family member. Residential students, except in Main Street Condos, Savin Court, and the Atwood are required to purchase a University meal plan.

Preparing for college is quite an involved process and identifying and accumulating all the necessary items can be somewhat of a daunting task. We have partnered with SWAK University Services to establish our own ORL-sponsored room outfitting store www.swaku.com/newhaven.

Our store includes over 1000 products for your room, all of which fall within our school guidelines. In particular, we would encourage you to look at our linen products, as quality and sizing can be an issue when buying bedding for college. All our bedding products can stand up to regular washing and will not bleed or fray. Furthermore, they are guaranteed to fit our Twin-XL beds and guaranteed to last until graduation.

On our store you have the option to send your order home or directly to campus. Everything sent to campus will be labeled with your student’s information and available for pick-up during Move-In. The deadline to order for on-campus delivery is July 15th, but order early for the best selection of linens and other popular products as they do sell out. Our room outfitting program is a service to our parents and students and a percentage of profits are given back to student programs. Please call us at 800-929-8184 or email service@swaku.com if you have any questions.

MicroFridge: A great solution providing students with a microwave and mini-refrigerator option in their rooms.

Personal Property Insurance: Residential students are encouraged to have personal property insurance for their belongings in the reisdence halls. NSSI is a helpful resource to consider.
